This paper is the introduction to the monographic issue of «History of Education & Children’s Literature» dedicated to the theme: Half a century of historical-educational research in Italy. Protagonists, itineraries, experiences. In it, the author traces the origins and the underlying reasons for the organic and articulated balance of the research conducted in the field of historical-educational studies in the last fifty years offered by the contributions collected here.
