Abstract

In this article we are going to outline the gradual evolution of the historiography of education since the 1960s, with specific attention to the most important series of La Nuova Italia which is entitled Educatori antichi e moderni [Ancient and Modern Educators]. The article evidenced the transition from historical-pedagogical discussions concerning pedagogical ideas, theories, concepts and those who developed them, to discussions concerning aspects, places and protagonists that are not only institutional and/or formal, but rather they could be defined as historical-educational. We are going to highlight also the consistently secular and democratic character of the publication, which constituted also a reference point for progressive teachers.
