History of Education, School Teaching of History of Art, Academies and Institutes of Fine Arts, Italy, Kingdom of Italy (1861-1943), XIX-XX CenturiesAbstract
Based on a wide and varied range of documentation, the Author explores the role played by the teaching of Art History in the curricula and study programs of the “governmental” or state Fine Arts Academies in the peninsula during the period between national unification (1861) and the Secon World War. The Author focuses in particular on the presence or absence of this subject, on regulations and academic rules, and on the characteristics and provisions (title, curricular space etc.) adopted by each Academy in this regard. The appendices reconstruct a mapping of the holders of Art History teaching in the different Fine Arts Academies of the peninsula for the period examined.
