The present research aims to analyze John of Ripa’s doctrine of the notitia intuitiva. Unlike other philosophies, Ripa’s one has a particular formulation according to which the entire doctrine depends upon his metaphysics. A preliminary survey of his doctrine’s metaphysical structures opens the way to the study of the modalities in which the notitia intuitiva is given, through a comparison with Gregory of Rimini’s and Francis of Marchia’s(?) doctrines. Once the liceity of any object’s notitia intuitiva has been ensured, Ripa focuses on God’s notitia intuitiva, which can be obtained by the analogy which those objects present with the original divine perfections from which they derive.
