About the Journal

History of Education & Children’s Literature (HECL) is the result of a long-standing project by a large group of historians of education and children’s literature from Italy and other European and non-European countries. The aim is to establish a journal in this field with a strong international focus, open to collaboration with scholars and researchers from different countries. It focuses on issues related to the history of education, institution, and school systems; history of children’s literature and periodical press for children and youth; textbooks and school manuals; pedagogical thought and educational theories.

History of Education & Children’s Literature welcomes collaboration and contributions from historians of education and children’s literature. It also seeks to provide space for studies and research by specialists and scholars in other branches of historical research, such as political, social, religious, literary, publishing, library, legal, economic, institutional, and cultural history. The journal is based on the conviction that a constant and systematic dialogue between different approaches, methods of investigation and historiographical perspectives offers a unique opportunity for growth and enrichment.

The journal is currently ranked in category A by ANVUR for sectors 11/D1 and 11/D2 and is indexed in the main national and international databases, including Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus by Elsevier.
