This article explores the educational tools used to prepare Italian teacher candidates for qualification exams in Italy between 1945-1980, focusing on study guides, exam aids, and textbooks designed to support aspiring primary school teacher. These resources, ranging from theoretical treatises to practical “cram books”, reflect educational priorities, exam expectations, and evolving views on teacher professionalism. The analysis also highlights tensions between theoretical depth and practical utility, as well as critiques of overly encyclopedic knowledge required by exams and the marginalization of classical authors in favor of didactic e methodology.
