Résumé

The winding, labyrinthine path of the classical myth and the circular dance initiated by the gnomes in Gozzano’s tale find a parallel in the meaning of an initiatory rite to which the protagonist of the story is subjected. He is “destined” to emerge enriched and strengthened from a trial that highlights his courage and assures personal growth, a self-evolution that prepares him for the further challenges life poses to everyone.
