The text investigates the configuration of polycentrism in the March of Ancona during the 14th and 15th centuries. The investigation perspective considers the political and administrative measures adopted by the Papacy and its provincial officials in the government of the Papal State. In particular, the research aims to investigate whether the papacy claimed to change the structures of polycentrism in the late Middle Ages, or he preferred instead to indulge them. Through an examination of the measures of government, that changed significantly according to historical conjunctures, it can be assumed that the papacy did not intend to undermine polycentrism, but he prefers to encourage it for it’s own benefit.
