Lo scopo che ci si propone in questa sede è quindi quello di rendere l’idea della varietà prospettica della produzione scientifica americana, tenendo presente il fatto che nessun approccio storiografico finora si è mai potuto esimere dal confronto con la questione schiavista, anche qualora – nei casi estremi – l’abbia rifiutata o – è il caso della produzione etnoculturale – ne abbia minimizzato il valore euristico, relegandola ad una posizione secondaria.
