Abstract

My paper aims to show how prominent representatives of historicism, Troeltsch, Dilthey, Meinecke, influenced Auerbach’s theory. Troeltsch’s and Auerbach’s minds greatly differ: there a moderate religiosity, here the eschatological disquiet of the christian. The suggestive account of particular, which constitutes Auerbach’s starting point of interpretation, is strictly connected with Dilthey’s «hermeneutic circle». Meinecke is very important for Auerbach’s theory of realism, but with significant reservations
