Résumé

This paper explores the motif of the youngest son/daughter and the fool in the fairy tale, at first focusing on E. Meletinsky’s hypothesis in attempt to investigate their common elements, such as being both bearers of a strong otherness. The two motifs are often intertwined and from Meletinsky’s point of view it is perhaps possible to hypothesise an explanation. In a second moment, the paper exposes M. Bachtin’s theory: the importance of the figure of the fool (often the youngest) in the formation of the novel.
