Non-fiction tra storia e letteratura. Il caso della memorialistica di guerra

Abstract

La memorialistica di guerra, che si è sviluppata rapidamente nel corso del ventesimo secolo, solleva alcuni interrogativi di natura teorica concernenti lo statuto estetico del racconto di testimonianza. La sua prima caratteristica è di essere costituita da narrazioni, con le quali gli autori non soltanto intendono tramandare degli eventi vissuti, bensì di cogliere e interpretare il senso che questi assumono rispetto alla loro vita e più in generale a un’epoca storica. L’articolo proporrà come case-study la memorialistica tedesca della campagna di Russia 1941-1945, un corpus di testi, tra i quali s’incontrano romanzi, autobiografie, memorie e diari. In questo genere di non-fiction che si situa a cavallo tra la storia e la letteratura, l’esperienza vissuta è narrata dai testimoni attraverso la retorica autobiografica, con le sue ambiguità e la sua ambizione di raccogliere il flusso incoerente della vita sotto il principio ordinatore di un intreccio.

The writing of war-memories, whose production has dramatically increased over the twentieth-century, arises a number of theoretical issues concerning the aesthetics of witness-narratives. Their first characteristic consist of the fact that their authors produce them not only to hand down the memory of experienced events, but above all to catch and interpret the meaning and sense that these events assume in the face of life and, more widely, in the face of a historic era. This article will propose as a case-study the German war-memories of the campaign of Russia (1941-1945). This is a corpus of texts among which one can find novels, autobiographies, memoirs and diaries. In this non-fiction genre that is situated on the border between history and literature, witnesses account for their own experience by means of autobiographical rhetoric, with its ambiguities and its ambition to recall the inconsistent flow of existence under the order and consistency of a narrative plot.
