Abstract

Bruno Di Porto was the most prolific contributor to the Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani, writing 34 entries on the history of the Risorgimento during the tenure of Alberto Maria Ghisalberti. A Jewish Republican, Di Porto made a significant contribution to the post-war effort to rebuild the history and memory of the Risorgimento. The article explores his output in the 1960s and 1970s, reconstructing the unfairly forgotten legacy of a rigorous historian driven by a strong civic passion.
