Abstract

The international biography project Women’s Memory contains a pool of interviews with women who lived the longest period of their lives under socialism in various Eastern European countries around the turn of the millennium, including 130 interviews with women from the Gdr about their careers, everyday life and how they dealt with the upheavals from 1989 onwards. The subjective
reconstruction of life and contemporary history from the perspective of three generations of women is a resource for biographical, transformation, democracy research and gender studies, especially for women’s history in the asymmetrical history of German-German interdependence and its representation in media discourses.
